Secure Your Meds

The Drug Enforcement Administration is asking Americans to keep prescription medications safe and secure until they can properly dispose of them. Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse.

Given the ongoing COVID-19 public health emergency, DEA wants to ensure that the public is aware of other ways they can dispose of unwanted prescription drugs without having to leave their homes.

At-Home Disposal

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration provides information on how to properly dispose of prescription drugs. For more information, click here.

The Environmental Protection Agency also provides guidance on at-home disposal, available here.

Year-Round Collection Sites

In addition to DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, prescription drugs can be disposed of at any of the 11,000 authorized collectors at any time. Click here for more information.
